Top Five Reasons to Love Beach Plum Farm

Top Five Reasons to Love Beach Plum Farm

It’s October, and Mother Nature has (finally!) given us a reason to celebrate autumn with tumbling temps and falling foliage. If you’re looking for a way to pumpkin-spice it up at the shore this fall, look no further than the Beach Plum Farm in Cape May.

Beach Plum is a 62-acre working farm engaged in regenerative agricultural practices to provide farm-to-table ingredients for area restaurants owned by the Cape Resorts Group. The group’s founding partners were inspired to develop a local food source after research revealed historic Congress Hall once served fresh produce grown on its own farm. Wanting to provide that same level of authenticity, the Beach Plum Farm was created. Today, Beach Plum produces over 100 varieties of fruits and vegetables picked and served the same day at Cape Resort restaurants, including the Ebbitt Room, Blue Pig Tavern, Rusty Nail, The Boiler Room, Louisa’s Cafe and more. Located a mile from the ocean and less than two miles from the restaurants it serves, Beach Plum Farm provides fresh ingredients for salads and side-dishes that faithfully compliment seafood plucked from the ocean that same morning as well. The farm also sources eggs, chicken and pork from heritage hogs.

But the Beach Plum is much more than just a working farm—it is also a market, a kitchen and a beautiful destination for visitors to the Cape who are looking for some off-beach fun. Here are our top five reasons why Beach Plum Farm is the place to be this fall (or any time of the year!)

1. You can bike here
The Beach Plum Farm is nestled in the center of the Cape, accessible by flat, easy-to-navigate country roads. In fall, you will be treated to a beautiful display of foliage along the tree-lined roads. In fact, the drive to Beach Plum is gorgeous at any time of the year. With its location less than two miles from the inns and resorts of Cape May, the ride is easy for all ages and abilities.

2. You can eat here
Inside the beautiful Beach Plum barn, you can start your morning with delicious breakfast sandwiches and freshly squeezed fruit and veggie juices ordered from the walk-up rustic kitchen window. At lunch, you can dine on fresh salads and sandwiches while you sit on a patio and soak in the beautiful outdoors. On select dates in October and November, you can enjoy an intimate Fall Farm-To-Table Dinner featuring local chefs who will serve up dishes using ingredients harvested that day. Dine under the stars or in the festive hoop house and enjoy meals prepared that day including farm-raised meats, organic produce and herbs. Can’t get here this fall? No worries—the Beach Plum Farm runs special dining events throughout the year, including their Holiday Farm Dinners in the hoop house, under pine garland and twinkling lights in an intimate setting. Summer events include special barbeques and pig roasts, and many more events throughout the year.

3. You can shop here
A two-story market provides visitors with the opportunity to purchase fresh produce. Select from items currently in season such as apples, squash and other types of fall produce. You’ll also find beautiful items handcrafted by local artisans, as well as an array of farm-inspired merchandise. Local delicacies such as jams and honey are also available. In fall, you can pick your own pumpkins and other harvest-themed items and decorative elements.

4. You can bring your family here
The Beach Plum Farm provides fun family-oriented activities for all ages. You can take a farm tour, enjoy a horseback ride around the grounds and visit the animals that call this quaint farm home. Family fun is planned during the holidays and throughout the year, making Beach Plum Farm a definite must-do for year-round family outings down the shore!

5. You can sleep here Imagine waking up to the sound of a crowing rooster on your Cape May beach vacation! Beach Plum offers comfy accommodations in six historic cottages and barns located on farm grounds where nights can be spent around a fire, gazing at the star-studded sky. During your stay, you’ll have use of golf carts or bicycles to get around, and your fridge will be stocked with eggs and meats for you to cook yourself (or you can forego the cooking and eat in the barn at the farm kitchen). Each residence includes a cooks’ kitchen, living room, dining area, screened porch, washer/dryer and wood stove, as well as signature bedding and complimentary WIFI. In season, guests have access to the farm’s swimming pool and use of Congress Hall’s beach service.

In addition to all this, Beach Plum Farm is a great destination for meetings, reunions and weddings.

With so many options for visitors, the Beach Plum Farm is a must-see this season. The Beach Plum Farm is open daily, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. Dining events are by reservation only.
