Free Weekly Events in Avalon

Each summer, Seven Mile Island offers free weekly events in both Avalon and Stone Harbor. The schedule is listed below:

Monday

Exploration Point (June 28 to August 30)
Mondays, 10:30 am
The Wetlands Institute, 1075 Stone Harbor Boulevard

Bring your buckets! Meet at the trailhead at 122nd Street in Stone Harbor and explore Stone Harbor Point for awesome seashells, cool birds, and fun things that live under the sand.

Outdoor Stories at the Library (June 14 – July 26)
Mondays, 10:30 am
Avalon Free Public Library

Gather on the library lawn for special stories and pick up a weekly activity card.

Tuesday

Family Story Time (June 8 – July 27)
Tuesdays, 6:30 pm
Avalon Free Public Library
Join us for stories, songs and crafts for children of all ages.

Totally Turtle Tuesday (June 22 – August 31)
Tuesdays, 5:00 pm
The Wetlands Institute, 1075 Stone Harbor Boulevard

Meet and learn all about turtles and release a terrapin in this fun, interactive event for all ages.

Tuesdays at the Tower Concert Series (July 6 – September 7)
Tuesdays, 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm
95th Street Water Tower Plaza

Features live bands and a Beer and Wine Garden, sponsored by the Stone Harbor Chamber of Commerce. This is a free event and is open to the public.

Beach Movies (June 29 – August 31)
Tuesday nights at dusk
30th Street Beach, Avalon

In the event of inclement weather, beach movie will be moved to Wednesday night. The featured movie schedule is below:

  • June 29: “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse”
  • July 6: “Trolls World Tour”
  • July 13: “Rocky IV”
  • July 20: “Karate Kid”
  • July 27: “Grease”
  • August 3: “Jaws”
  • August 10: “The Croods: A New Age”
  • August 17: “The Mighty Ducks”
  • August 24: “Pirates of the Caribbean:
  • August 31: The Curse of the Black Pearl”

Wednesday

Dune and Beach Walk (June 23 – September 1)
Wednesdays, 9:30 am – 10:30 am
48th Street and Dune Drive

Meet at 45th Street and Dune Drive in Avalon for an interpretive walk with a naturalist along the maritime forest and dune trails as you learn about the animals and plants that thrive in this environment. Presented by the Wetlands Institute of Stone Harbor.

A Night at the Aquarium (June 23 – September 1)
Wednesdays, 5:00 pm
The Wetlands Institute, 1075 Stone Harbor Boulevard

Meet, feed and learn all about all kinds of fish in this fun, interactive event for all ages.

Adult Cornhole (begins July 7)
Wednesdays, 6:00 pm
82nd Street Recreation Field, Stone Harbor

Weekly cornhole competitions for adults only.

Thursday

Horseshoe Crabmania (June 24 – September 2)
Thursdays, 5:00 pm
The Wetlands Institute, 1075 Stone Harbor Boulevard

Meet and learn all about horseshoe crabs and release one from the dock in this fun, interactive event for all ages.

Friday

Surfside Live (June 25 – August 20)
Friday nights, 7:00 pm
Surfside Park, 30th Street Beach, Avalon

Enjoy your favorite characters and a DJ dance party, games, trivia and more. Each week features a different theme:

  • June 25: Frozen Showcase
  • July 2: Superheroes Unite
  • July 9: Minion Mayhem
  • July 16: Princess Showcase
  • July 23: Christmas Show – Elves Gone Wild! 
  • July 30: Trolls Just Wanna Have Fun 
  • Aug. 6: Superheroes
  • Aug. 13: Frozen Showcase
  • Aug. 20: Mickey’s Magical Sing-Along

Saturday

Stone Harbor Bird Sanctuary Tours (June 27 – August 29)
Saturdays 10:00 am
Holly Path, 2nd Avenue, Stone Harbor

Grab binoculars and your best bird guide! Then meet us at Holly Path, 2nd Avenue Entrance in Stone Harbor, for a guided tour of the Stone Harbor Bird Sanctuary.

Sunday

Stone Harbor Farmer’s Market (May 30 – September 12)
Sundays, 8:00 am – 12:30 pm
95th Street Water Tower Plaza, Stone Harbor

Weekly farmer’s market features fresh produce, baked goods, organic coffee and tea, gourmet foods, flowers, oils & vinegars, nuts, honey, flowers, nursery stock and much more.

Seashell Sunday (June 6 – September 6)
Sundays, 10:00 am
The Wetlands Institute, 1075 Stone Harbor Boulevard

Seashells at the seashore! Join us to learn all about seashells, how to collect them without harming the environment, and touch an assortment of live mollusks and cool artifacts.

Stone Harbor Bird Sanctuary Tours (June 27 – August 29)
Sundays 10:00 am
Holly Path, 2nd Avenue, Stone Harbor
