Free Weekly Summer Events in Avalon

If you are looking for family friendly events or free things to do in Avalon, we have a listing of activities held each day. Throughout the summer, Avalon hosts free weekly events as listed below:


Monday Funday (June 22 – August 31)
Mondays, 10:00 am, Avalon Free Public Library or Avalon History Center
This weekly interactive kids’ event includes crafts, activities, and performances for kids.


Story Time (Year round)
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10:00 am
Avalon Free Public Library
Join us for stories, songs and crafts for children of all ages.

Teen Tuesdays (July 7 – August 25)
Tuesdays, 11:00 am
Avalon Free Public Library
Events for teens are held every Tuesday ranging from reading and arts to technology and Escape Room activities.

Beach Movies (June 30 – August 25)
Movies are show at dusk on the 30th Street Beach (In the event of inclement weather, beach movie will be moved to Wednesday night).

LEGO Club (June 24 – September 2)
Wednesdays, 10:00 am
Avalon Free Public Library
The Library supplies the Legos, but you provide the imagination. Get creative with a team or work on your own. All ages are welcome.

Dune and Beach Walk (June 24 – September 2)
9:30 am – 10:30 am
48th Street and Dune Drive
Meet at 45th Street and Dune Drive in Avalon for an interpretive walk with a naturalist along the maritime forest and dune trails as you learn about the animals and plants that thrive in this environment. Presented by the Wetlands Institute of Stone Harbor.


Story Time (Year round)
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10:00 am  
Avalon Free Public Library
Join us for stories, songs and crafts for children of all ages.

Thursdays on Dune (June 25 – August 20)
Thursdays, 5:30 – 7:00 pm activities, 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. concert
Veterans Plaza, 21st Street and Dune Drive
Featuring children’s activities from 5:30 – 7:00 pm including family-fun activities, crafts, giveaways, character appearances and more, followed by a live band from 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm. 


Kids Friday Fundays (July 10 – August )
10:00 am – 12:00 noon
Avalon Community Hall
Two hours of fun events for kids. Each week features a different theme:
July 10 Beach Day 
July 17 Sand Art Day
July 24 Tie Dye Day
July 31 Sidewalk Chalk Art Day
August 7 Tie Dye Day
August 14 Sand Art Day

Video Game Day at the Library (July 3 – August7)
11:00 am – 12:00 noon, Avalon Free Public Library
Play Nintendo Switch on a big screen, plus enjoy other games such as Nintendo DS and tabletop games. All ages welcome.

Surfside Live (June 26 – August 21)
Fridays, 7:00 – 9:00 pm, Surfside Park
Enjoy an interactive live performance every Monday night, featuring favorite characters, face painting, DJ, and more. Character appearance dates are listed below.

  1. After reading about the activities in Avalon I found out this site is 2019. Visited Avalon yesterday – what a beautiful beach, shopping and family area…definitely a jewel of the sea!
